Convergence
Publishers & Agents
Convergence is primarily targeted at the increasing numbers of emerging and recently established female researchers.  Worldwide, a very conservative estimate of the total numbers of investigators would be around 500,000.  Assuming women comprise no more than 40% of this number then this book should appeal to around 200,000.  However, the four stories can easily translate across gender, suggesting a much larger audience probably exists.
Target Audience
Convergence will appeal across many genres as it can be read at a number of levels.  From a Commercial Fiction viewpoint, the manuscript can be read as political intrigue/thriller, given that it chronicles the interactions of minor and major players in the world of science as they vie for academic position and argue over who gets credit for their discoveries.  As a scientific mystery, there are four research projects that have common themes, though quite how they all relate to each other isn't clear until the end.  Alternatively, the book will offer a lot to the Literary Fiction audience in that there is metaphor and allegory, as well as penetrating commentaries about a highly complex community.

Thus, the book can be read for pure entertainment, to understand and solve a scientific mystery, to gain insight into the world of scientific discovery, for the intellectual challenge of discerning how networks of highly intelligent people can support or undermine each other depending on their intent, or to gain critical awareness of things to avoid for those women (and men) passing through the formative stages of their scientific careers.

Maketing
Convergence documents the surprisingly cut-throat world of science and reflects the real-world experiences of tens of thousands of young researchers everywhere.  There are four main storylines, each involving a woman seemingly unrelated to the other three.  Convergence begins by slowly taking the reader into the world of science and discovery, a seemingly benign culture that appears full of supportive people.  However, despite the apparent purity of the four main protagonists, sinister undercurrents are ever-present and each storyline gets ever darker as the novel progresses.  After many unpredictable plot-twists Convergence stops being purely a science mystery and develops into a slow-burning political drama.

Books/Movies Similar to Convergence
This novel can draw parallels with Flash of Genius, The Insider, And the Band Played On, Thank You for not Smoking, and The Demon Haunted World for issues such as credit for discovery going to the wrong people, power superseding truth, self-serving belief systems, and an industry that is full of self-deception regarding drugs or theories that do not work as advertized.  How can 4 disconnected individuals ever stand up to such forces?  Convergence explains how by walking you through a forensic dissection of all these issues and more. Unless books like Convergence make it out into the mainstream, the plight of our future scientists will likely never change. Certainly, in the world of science, a novel such as Convergence is long, long overdue.
