…………This cross-pollination of ideas was what science was supposed to be about, if fertile minds were free to explore the possibilities and were unencumbered by politics or hidden agendas, that is.  It was a rare pleasure for them and they spent the rest of the day wondering why science couldn’t always be this way.
………..Row after row of posters stretched across the entire convention center, an area that was easily the length and breadth of 2 football fields.  The noise level from all these people could easily have rivaled a busy freeway at rush-hour …….. It was exciting to be in a room full of some of the most intelligent people on the planet (academically at least!).
…………However, when she then examined the brain sections from the [drug-treated] group she smiled to herself; it was the first time she felt that way in some time and it was a moment that was worth dwelling on…………..When she was finally done for the day, she left the lab an exhausted but very content woman.
Still, she did have a glow about her.  It wasn’t so much pride but more like a slowly growing sense of gratification.  All the times when it would have been easier to get the hell out and quit, it all now seemed to have been worth it, kind of, and it was a hell of a way to end her work week.
